(HQ Online) – In an exchange with Customs Magazine, a representative from the Customs Department of Cau Treo International Border Gate stated that following the occurrence of landslides on certain sections of National Highway 8A leading to the Cau Treo International Border Gate,

road construction units have been actively addressing the issue. As of this morning, the affected areas have been reopened for traffic.

Landslides Cleared at Cau Treo Border

According to information, around 22:00 on February 25, National Highway 8A, the section at the Cogai pass (Km 82+300), suffered serious landslides due to heavy rain. Rocks and soil collapsed, blocking the road with a mass of up to 1,000 m3, completely paralyzing traffic.

After the landslide, authorities coordinated with Project Management Unit 4 (Vietnam Road Administration) – the investor of the “Investment in construction and upgrade of National Highway 8A” project to deploy forces to regulate traffic and install warning signs.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Son, Deputy Chief of Customs Department of Cau Treo International Border Gate (Ha Tinh Customs Department), said that despite many sections of National Highway 8A being affected by landslides, causing difficulty in traffic, all import-export activities and customs clearance at the border gate are still proceeding normally. As of now, the landslide areas have been cleared by authorities to facilitate smooth traffic flow.

National Highway 8A is prone to landslides, especially affecting traffic from Laos since a landslide occurred in August 2023, which has not been handled by Laotian authorities, causing transportation difficulties. This has also led to many businesses opting not to go through customs procedures at the Cau Treo international border gate. Consequently, the rate of goods passing through the Cau Treo international border gate has decreased significantly from late 2023 to the present, Mr. Nguyen Tien Son added.
